Smart meter plans threatened?

Philippa Martin-King on January 14, 2010 | 1518 Views | 18 Comments

It seems that the British plans to install smart meters is threatened by consumer fears.

Householders are worried that employees of utility companies could use the data to spy on them and detect when they're not at home or when they've purchased expensive new systems...

I would love to know more about this trend in the UK...is it taking a similar path as what's happening with PG&E in CA?

This is just a reason the power company can charge you whatever they like. Meters have never been that accurate. I appreciate your post and I will come back to read more in the future. I work for a link building company and we do our best to use the least amount of electricity as possible.

We need some smarter meters because we have to get it right. We have to know how much energy we are using. I work at a handmade jewelry company and they are horrible about knowing exactly what is being used. Its really sad.

I think they will go through with smart meters soon. I just think they need to raise the funds to buy this expensive equipment. I think this was a very interesting post. I own a advertising space company and we all work hard to reduce energy use.

This is so very important that we use only the amount of energy that we need to survive and not waste any. You think exactly the same way as me. Thanks for this great article.

Thanks Josie Lee

Hopefully they will get back on track and get the meters that we need. I hope they get this done soon. I run a playstation 3 repair company and I have to say that we dont have the meters that we need to be more efficient.

These meters are vital to saving energy on a larger scale. People just waste it without even knowing how much they are using. I work for a flats rent cardiff agency and we have the best meters installed on all of our rental properties. Its just the way we work.  Thanks

its interesting how they alwasy use terms like "smart" when they gouge even more money from people as if were all fooled by the deception, theres nothing smart about it, just another money grab.

I think its time for these meters to be mandatory in the U.S.. We all need to know how much we are using and wasting. This is so interesting to me. I really love to be as consertive as I can. Thanks for taking the time to make this great post.

This is so very important i think so too.

Thanks for this good article.

It is a very good idea to have a personal smart meter monitor out there as we can compared it to the device provided by the company.

I think the idea is very nice, too.

This is so so important that we use only the amount of energy that we need to survive and not waste any.

This must say and remind everyone that wasting is that nice. There are a lot of things to give importance. Thanks anyway for this site.

 Thanks,
