 SELINA Project Has Taken Off
A new Energy Intelligence for Europe (IEE) project has taken off : the SELINA project which stands for Standby and Off-Mode Energy Losses In New Appliances Measured in Shops. The main objective of this project is to identify effective market transformation policy initiatives targeted at all the key stakeholders involved in the manufacture, distribution, sales, purchasing and operation of appliances with standby and off-mode losses [READ MORE]

Low–Power Mode Energy Consumption In European Homes
In a recently finished Energy Intelligence for Europe project, REMODECE (Residential Monitoring to Decrease Energy Use and Carbon Emissions in Europe), the electricity use of appliances in houses has been detailed measured in some 1.300 homes. In average the standby consumption measured is about 6,3 % of residential electricity use. This aggregates up to about 21,5 TWh and 9,4 million ton CO2 per year for all households in the participating countries.  [READ MORE]

Low–Power Mode Energy Consumption In California Homes
In a recent study of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL), low–power mode energy use in Californian homes has been estimated. The average low–power mode was estimated to be 980 kWh/year. This is roughly 13 percent of residential electricity use. If low–power mode energy use were treated as a unique end  use, it would rank fourth in Californian homes above air conditioning, miscellaneous, and pools and spas.

Stand-by Power Use And The IEA “1-Watt Plan”
In 1999, the International Energy Agency (IEA) proposed that all countries harmonise energy policies to reduce standby power use to no more than one watt per device. The proposal contained 3 elements : Participating countries would seek to lower standby to below 1 watt in all products by 2010 ; Each country would use measures and policies appropriate to its own circumstances ; All countries would adopt the same definition and test procedure. What progress has occurred since the IEA proposed the one-watt plan? [READ MORE]
