Philippe Starck Democratic Ecology personal wind turbine

Jose Vaz Pinto on July 25, 2008 | 1488 Views

Philippe Starck, the well known designer, presents an eco solution: a personal wind-turbine, called Democratic Ecology.

The claim is that a single windmill can generate 20-60% of the energy needed to power a home. The mechanics are commited to italian based generator company Pramac.  It has been presented as a transparent polycarbonate, but there’s also a more subdued version for those afraid of modern design.

This brand new wind turbine will be available to go on sale in September 2008, priced at just €400 ($633).  That sounds good when compared to existing turbines which can cost several thousand euros.

Starck called the turbine the Democratic Ecology, which sounds heavy enough for what you see but which probably sums up what’s been on Starck’s mind lately, says triplepundit.com.

The wind power data is tracked as an ‘eco economic indicator’ by Earth Policy, earth-policy.org, because the organization believes wind power is set to become the foundation of the new energy economy.

In Europe the offshore wind is already in consideration, as an assessment made in 2004 by the Garrad Hassan wind energy consulting group concluded that if governments aggressively develop their vast offshore resources, wind could supply all of Europe’s residential electricity by 2020.
