If you read one book this year, read "The Hot Topic"

Jonathan Buck on April 8, 2008 | 2735 Views | 1 Comment

I have been meaning to write a pulse on this for some days now!  Having finished the excellent book, "The Hot Topic" by Gabrielle Walker and Sir David King, I had to share my enthusiasm. If you are interested in electrical energy efficiency, saving the world, and finding out how you as an individual can make a difference, please read this book!

Having got extremely depressed reading "Six Degrees" by Mark Lynas (and what the temperature rises - from the almost certain +2°C through to +6°C - will mean for which countries including my country of residence Switzerland), the "Hot Topic" really offers some optimism and concrete proposals - including some excellent coverage on electricity power generation, improving electrical equipment, renewables in the scheme of things, and of course, those difficult behavorial changes! While I don't normally promote books and it certainly isn't the role of wattwatt or the IEC (for whom I work), I hope you will all forgive this indulgence. I have now leant my copy to the IEC General Secretary and CEO for some reading on his travels.

Hi Jonathan, very good and easy reading, in fact !

Sir David King and Gabrielle Walker did a very good revision of the several aspects in this quite dificult context of global warming - politicaly and socialy.

I would only enhance the fact that perhaps we are in the verge of a technological transition that could lead us to a new and promissing world. The Internet could be used as the maximum collaboration tool for realy efficient knowledge transmission, with fantastic effects on the global energy equation.
